Veterans in Competitions – a reminder

Members will be aware that, at the 2006 AGM, a resolution was passed limiting eligibility for entry in the Xmas Fayre competition to those who had played at least three competitions throughout the year.

In the case of the veteran members of the Section (70yrs and over), who have reached a point where they are unable to play in the main competitions and wish to play fewer than the full eighteen holes, it is felt that the three competition rule is unfair. These members have supported and served the Section for many years.

The Committee has decided, therefore, that the veterans should be allowed to continue to participate by playing a separate, limited hole, competition in conjunction with the main competition. This is now permissible for handicapping purposes by CONGU rules.

They would be required to pay the competition entry fee, currently £2, fifty pence of which would go into Section funds. The Captain would present the remainder of their contribution to the winner of their competition at the prizegiving. Cards could then be submitted for handicap review.

Organisers of Seniors’ competitions should bear the above in mind and ensure that the veterans are invited to enter as a separate group. They would normally play after the main competition. Tee times should be allocated to include this group.

Active/Inactive Handicaps

Just a reminder that if members have allowed their handicaps to become inactive, they will need to enter three qualifying cards in order for their handicaps to become active again.

The Committee has decided that only those with active handicaps will be selected for the Inter-club matches.

Also, those with inactive handicaps will not be eligible to win trophies or prizes in the Seniors Competitions.

They will, however, be allowed to play in singles stroke play/stableford competitions. Their cards will count towards restitution of their handicaps provided that the competition is a qualifier.
