Annual Medal Trophy

On a wonderful day for golf, the Seniors were pitted against their worst nightmare – JOG off white tees and a medal. It was a beautiful day but the wind was not very helpful and did cause a lot of problems for numbers of golfers. Even the good golfers were caught unawares and there were a number of double figure scores at some unlikely holes. No names will be given to protect the innocent!

The results showed that the top three were the only ones to have an adjustment to their handicaps, down, of course. All the rest of the players' handicaps were unchanged, sorry guys, those are the rules!

The winner of the Medal Trophy was Peter Lowe, followed closely by Peter Jarman and Peter Thomas. Well done to them. For the full results, please click HERE.

The winner of the Jubilee Trophy (Stableford for the 21 - 28 handicaps) was David Gauge. There were 6 veterans in the 9 hole Competition, which was won by Les Tharby.

Many thanks to Fred Cox for his organisation, especially as he was unable to play.

Peter

Match v Aspley Guise (Wilmotts)-Carthagena

Jim Kerr was Organiser and he reported that the match was halved. The weather was dry and breezy. Capt. John and Jim managed to win their match on the last hole, against the odds. Nearest the pin was won by ‘Bob the Shorts’, apparently he plays in shorts summer and winter and isn’t even a thick Jock.  (Jim's words!!)

Compliments were paid to the bar and catering staff for their service and excellent meal. Special thanks to the green staff for a course to be proud of.

Thanks are due to Jim for organising.

Interclub Match against Bourn on Carthagena

Result: JOG Seniors 3.5, Bourn 4.5

We started strongly with the first three groups leading. Then the heavy rain came which could have contributed to the loss of the next four games!! The last group won for JOG and the first group, Capt John and I, only managed a half which was decided on the last hole.

Bourn congratulated the Club on the condition of the course which they enjoyed. Only one change to the original selections, A Fowler substituted for W Skelding.

John Ellary (Organiser).

Interclub Match against Wellingborough at JOG

JOG Seniors took advantage of a home venue on the JOG course to record a win against Wellingborough Seniors 5 - 3.

The anticipated rain held off, although a chilly breeze ensured that players remained well wrapped up. Congratulations to Ken Robinson who was approximately 9 inches away from the hole with his tee shot on the JOG 16th (distance varies depending upon which fisherman you talk too), he was not the winner of the Nearest the Pin as the prize was for the visiting team only !!

All players enjoyed the quality of the course with many being caught out by the speed of the greens - particularly on downhill putts.

Our thanks to the green staff and kitchen staff for a most enjoyable day - we look forward to our return match at Wellingborough on 9th August.

(Bloggers note: I was robbed!)
