Annual Stableford Trophy-Results

On a day when it was best to be out early, the later starters still did well, despite the very unseasonable rain that didn't want to go away. Captain John held on to third place until the end when he was just pipped at the post !!
Steve Collins won with 38 points ahead of Steve Cooper on 36 who beat David Lincoln on count back.
So, everything is starting to build up in the golfer of the year competition, with all the consistent finishers gaining good points.
We also said a fond farewell to Carolyn, who has been looking after us forever !  Although it was only five years. I think she was very pleased that so many had turned out to see the presentation from Captain John.

Results can be viewed here and on the club website.

Downsmen Interclub Trophy

Trevor Hazell, Gerry Gentle and our Captain, John attended Dunstable Downs, Tues 16th July, to defend the Downsmen Interclub Trophy which was won by JOG Seniors last year. (See last year's report). John reports that although each played in separate teams, their individual points where totalled. This year we managed to come second in the competition with a combined score of 100 points against the winning score of 104 by Woburn Seniors. Well done gents for flying the JOG Seniors flag.

John also reports that the organisation was excellent with a Downsmen assigned to each team who looked after their every needs from coffee and bacon roll on arrival to dinner and bar service after the game. Sounds like an excellent day out!

Reg Batson Trophy

On a beautiful day, 32 of the Seniors' finest did battle for the Reg Batson Trophy on the John O’Gaunt course. Unfortunately, at the end there was no trophy to be given!!!! So the Captain improvised!
The course was in very good condition, which should have made for fine golf. There was a small hiatus when the leading group appeared on the 10th at 10.00am, right in the middle of the roll-up! The situation was brought to the attention of the Management and a little more care will be exercised next year.
So, to the results. There was some bunching at the top of the field and this kept the CSS down to a very reasonable 73. In fourth place, on count back was Robert Anderson, third on count back was Peter Jarman, second on count back was the very late fill in, Pat Gilgallon. The winner and the only competitor to lose something off his handicap was Rob Carter, with a level par net 71. The very man who kept telling the Hon Sec that he couldn't keep up any more!!! So much for his chances in the Annual Review!!

The full results of the todays competition can be seen HERE. also on the club website.
